Type TECK 90 cable

Standard Details

Preface This is the seventh edition of CSA C22.2 No. 131, Type TECK 90 cable , one of a series of Standards issued under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes the previous editions published in 2017, 2014, 2007, 1989, 1981, and 1965. The following are the main changes in this edition: a) removing requirements for shielded 5 kV TECK 90 cable from this Standard because the requirements for the product are covered in CSA C68.10; b) updating Clause 5.1.1 to clarify requirements on metal material used for circuit conductors in a cable; c) adding cable marking requirements under Clause 6.1 for voltage rating, size of conductors, FT6 flame test rating, and halogen-free products; d) updating Clause 7.12.2.2 to clarify that the ST1 limited-smoke test is performed in conjunction with the FT4 test; e) updating Clauses 7.2.2 and 7.8.2 to specify that smoothing and die-cutting, if required, is performed before aging, aligning with the test method in CSA C22.2 No. 2556; f) updating the length of lay language in Clause 5.5.1 and Table 5to align with the language in CSA C22.2 No. 51 and CSA C22.2 No. 123; g) updating the after-aging properties for inner thermoplastic jackets in Table 12 to align with CSA C22.2 No. 239 and CSA C22.2 No. 51; h) updating the after-aging requirements for outer thermoplastic jackets in Table 14 where smoothing and die-cutting, if required, is performed before aging; i) updating the oil immersion aging requirements for halogen-free thermoplastic jackets in Table 17 where smoothing and die-cutting, if required, is performed before aging; j) updating the after-aging requirements for halogen-free thermoset jacket in Table 18 where smoothing and die-cutting, if required, is performed before aging; k) revising Tables 17 and 18 to separate the aged and non-aged-related tests; and l) making editorial changes to update the names of test methods to align with CSA C22.2 No. 2556. This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard. This Standard was prepared by the Subcommittee on Metal-Clad Cables, under the jurisdiction of the Technical Committee on Wiring Products and the Strategic Steering Committee on Requirements for Electrical Safety, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to single- and multi-conductor Type TECK 90 armoured cable intended for installation in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, on systems having nominal voltages of 5000 V and less and having a maximum temperature rating of 90 °C in both dry and wet locations. 1.2 In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
