The Evaluation of Engine Crankcase Lubricants With Respect to Low Temperature Lubricant Thickening and Wear Under Severe Operating Conditions

Standard Details

This method may be used to evaluate the propensity of crankcase oils, using the Mercedes-Benz OM602A diesel engine, to prevent wear, to resist oil thickening and to prevent the formation of deposits encountered during light and heavy duty, extended oil drain, turbocharged operation. The primary results include camshaft and cylinder bore wear, oil thickening and piston deposits. Secondary results include cylinder bore polishing, sludge deposits, tappet and bearing wear. This procedure may involve hazardous materials, operations and equipment. This procedure does not purport to address all the safety problems associated with its use.
