Standard Practice for Using the Guarded-Hot-Plate Apparatus in the One-Sided Mode to Measure Steady-State Heat Flux and Thermal Transmission Properties
1.1 This practice covers the determination of the steady-state thermal transmission properties of insulating specimens using a guarded hot plate in a one-sided configuration. It represents a supplemental procedure to Test Method C177, which applies only to a two-sided configuration.
1.2 This practice is limited to the difference in the procedure for measuring the heat flow between the two-sided method, Test Method C177, and this one-sided practice. For the rest of the practice, Test Method
1.3 This practice can apply to both the low- and high-temperature apparatus described in Test Method C177.
1.4 This standard does not purport to address the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of whoever uses this standard to consult and establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
