High-voltage switchgear and controlgear — Gas-filled wrought aluminium and aluminium alloy enclosures (Adopted CENELEC EN 50064:2018, 2018-11, with Canadian deviations)

Standard Details

CSA Preface This is the second edition of CSA C50064, High-voltage switchgear and controlgear — Gas-filled wrought aluminium and aluminium alloy enclosures, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) Standard EN 50064 (2018-11). It supersedes the previous edition published in 1999 as CSA C50064 (adopted EN 50064:1989). For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as "CSA C50064" throughout. Funding in support of the consensus process of this Standard was provided by the following funders, whose assistance is acknowledged with thanks: Alectra Utilities, Electricity Canada (EC), EPCOR, Fortis Alberta, Fortis BC, Hydro One, Hydro-Québec, IFD Corporation, K-Line Insulators Ltd., Maritime Electric, NB Power, Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro, Newfoundland Power, Nova Scotia Power, S&C Electric Canada Ltd., Schneider Electric Canada Inc., Toronto Hydro, and Utilities Standards Forum (USF). This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard. This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the CSA Technical Committee on Switchgear and Controlgear, under the jurisdiction of the CSA Strategic Steering Committee on Power Engineering and Electromagnetic Compatibility, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope This document applies to wrought aluminium and aluminium alloy enclosures and their welding. These enclosures are pressurized with dry air, inert gases, for example sulphur hexafluoride or nitrogen or a mixture of such gases, used in indoor and outdoor installations of high-voltage switchgear and controlgear with rated voltages above 1 kV, where the gas is used principally for its dielectric and/or arc-quenching properties with rated voltages. — above 1 kV and up to and including 52 kV concerning gas-filled compartments with design pressure higher than 300 kPa relative pressure (gauge); — above 52 kV concerning all gas-filled compartments. The enclosures comprise parts of electrical equipment not necessarily limited to the following examples: — circuit-breakers; — switch-disconnectors; — disconnectors; — earthing switches; — current transformers; — voltage transformers; — surge arrestors; — busbars and connections; — etc. The scope also covers enclosures of pressurized components such as the centre chamber of live tank switchgear, gas-insulated current transformers, etc.
