Preface This is the first edition of CSA TS-506, A climate risks-informed approach to asset management in northern regions . This Technical Specification (referred to as "this Document" from here on) is not a consensus project; that is, it is not a Standard and it has not been formally approved by a Technical Committee. CSA Group acknowledges that the development of this Document was made possible, in part, by the financial support of the Standards Council of Canada, as part of the Northern Infrastructure Standardization Initiative (NISI), and with the input of the Standards Council of Canada’s Northern Advisory Committee. NISI promotes the development and update of standards to adapt northern infrastructure to climate change. CSA Group acknowledges the permission granted by the Northwest Territories Association of Communities (NWTAC) to use and adapt content from their Asset Management Plan Guide. CSA Group acknowledges the permission of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) (copyright holders) to adapt and reproduce Table 2. CSA Group also acknowledges the permission of Standards Council Canada on behalf of ISO for the use of Figure 1 from CSA ISO 31000 (see Figure 4) and Figure 1 from ISO 55000 (see Figure 1), and various definitions noted in Clause 2. Copyright remains with ISO. This Document was prepared by the CSA TS-506 Working Group. Scope 1.1 General The objective of this Document is to provide guidance to organizations for how they can manage their assets or groups of assets over the full life cycle of those assets considering potential risks, including climate-related impacts, to deliver the intended value or service in northern regions. 1.2 Inclusions This Document applies to physical (i.e., tangible) assets, built or natural, and to the full life cycle activities that support the provision of value or services by these assets. 1.3 Exclusions This Document does not apply to intangible assets. 1.4 Terminology This Document contains no requirements. In this Document, "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required, and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Document.
